"a belief system powered by optimism" - I like that!

A belief system powered by optimism,” that is what the world needs today. Your essay is a radiant example of that truth, Brendan. Coincidentally, last night I sponsored the Optimism Prize at the Melbourne Business Network and spoke about the global need for optimism, especially as a defining trait of small-business owners who turn challenges into opportunities. Your words echo that spirit powerfully. Thank you for building belief in better possibilities.

Thanks so much, Victor. It’s great to see how you’re championing optimism as a way for businesses to find success. I’m really grateful for what you’re doing in this space — it’s been a genuine source of inspiration on my own journey, and something I’ve been able to channel into my work in ways that continue to be incredibly rewarding.

Sometimes the unexpected questions are the ones that get people to open up, so love that you open with that.

I find with agency it's also helpful to play with timescales. For e.g. getting people to think about what they can be optimistic about this week/year/ten years (or makes them feel hopeful across those timescales).

I think this helps people realise they have more agency (and things to be positive about) than they think.

Love that. It’s hard to feel optimistic in the here and now sometimes, so I’m into the idea of projecting forward. In the end, optimism is just practice. You commit, train the muscle, and when you clock that you’re stronger for it, it starts to stick.
